Happy Independence Day!
When the founding fathers decided to revolt against King George it was all about freedom from tyranny. Do you believe we are now struggling with tyranny in America today? Do you feel free to speak your mind? I do not. Do you believe the government has been taking away your freedom? I do. Do you believe that it is time for a new revolution? I do not. Do you believe there is a need for change? I do. Let me what God has taught me about how freedom brings hope.
On this Independence Day week I am reflecting upon the intent of our founding fathers when they revolted against King George. It was basically all about freedom. It was about living their lives without the interference of government. It was about freedom of religion, freedom of speech it was about our God given rights. I however have been struggling with the willingness of the American people to give up there freedoms. It was accelerated in the time of the Covid 19 pandemic. We as Americans allowed the government to quarantine the health. We went ahead and gave up several of our freedoms granted to us by The Declaration of Independence and The United States Constitution. We willingly agreed to stay home. We neglected the ability to gather together for worship, a right granted to us in the constitution. We gave up our rights to free speech also granted by the constitution. We allowed the government to intrude upon our freedom in many ways.
But we have also allowed the government to redefine some very key Christian doctrine. We have allowed them to define when life begins which is clearly defined in the Bible as from the beginning of time. Revelation 13:8 is clear to me that God knew us before the foundations of the earth. “And all who dwell on earth will worship it, everyone whose name has not been written before the foundation of the world in the book of life of the Lamb who was slain.” (ESV) Though this passage refers to those unbelievers it is clear that believers’ names were written in the book before the foundation of the earth which in my mind means that in the mind of God I existed. They have redefined marriage insisting that it is illegal not to agree. they are trying to redefine biology and insisting that we agree or face legal action.
But all in all no matter what the government does or says I have freedom that can never be taken away from me because God has granted me freedom. Galatians 5:1 makes it absolutely clear, “For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery.” (ESV) So, I have hope because I have a freedom that can never be taken away. As society and government crumbles around me and goes against the will of God I am still free!
I pray that you will look for your freedom in Jesus Christ alone. In doing so you will find the only true source of hope. Remember though that all sin is forgivable except the sin of unbelieve in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ on the cross satisfied the penalty for my sins and yours as well. It satisfied all my sins from the past, in the present, and in the future. My penalty and yours were satisfied on the cross by the death of Jesus, God’s greatest act of love and wrath, who became sin for me and you. It was also God’s greatest act of faithfulness because “God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8 (ESV) Because wisdom shows us, we need to believe in Jesus. I hope that you join me in helping others to choose Jesus.
