Do you trust the word of everyone you know? I do not. Do you trust the word of a stranger? I do not. Do you trust the word of someone online? I have and now I do not always. Do you trust The Word of God? I try to but sometimes I doubt. Let me tell you what God has taught me about how The Word of God brings hope.
I have trusted the word of many people over my lifetime and in some cases, it was justified, and everything was good. In some cases, it was foolish of me to do so, and the results were bad. My guess the same is with many of you. There were times that I trusted the word of someone that I completely trusted and the results were bad. Maybe it was because the person promised something that was beyond their power to execute or because they got busy and forgot. So, I have yet to meet anyone who is completely trustworthy. A . famous President once said, “Trust but verify” – President Ronald Reagan I cannot always trust myself. There have been times when I have said I will never do something again. A few days later I repeat the behavior. I believe this is because in all truth and reality no person is completely trustworthy besides God
This where I have found the only thing that I can truly trust is the Word of God. In the Word of God, I find hope. I find it there because God’s Word is always true. “Sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth.” John 17:17 (ESV) It is always useful. “For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.” Hebrews 4:12 (ESV) It shows me the way to live and the way to eternal life. “All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.” 2 Timothy 3:16-17 (ESV)It is the perfect guide. “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” Psalms 119:105 (ESV)It is eternal. “Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away.” Matthew 24:35 (ESV)It is filled with completely trustworthy promises. “Every word of God proves true; he is a shield to those who take refuge in him.” Proverbs 30:5 (ESV) It accomplishes its intent and purpose. “So shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it.” Isaiah 55:11 (ESV) For these reasons and many more The Word of God Brings me hope.
I pray that you hold firm with your trust in the Word of God because it is the only true source of hope. Remember though that all sin is forgivable except the sin of unbelieve in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ on the cross satisfied the penalty for my sins and yours as well. It satisfied all my sins from te past, in the present, and in the future. My penalty and yours were satisfied on the cross by the death of Jesus, God’s greatest act of love and wrath, who became sin for me and you. It was also God’s greatest act of faithfulness because “God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8 (ESV) Because wisdom shows us, we need to believe in Jesus. I hope that you join me in helping others to choose Jesus.
