Do you trust people in general? I do. Do you trust in someone more than others? I do. Have you ever been let down by someone you trusted? I have. Why do you trust someone? Is there someone you can trust completely? There is for me. Why is it that you trust them completely? Is it because they have proven to be absolutely worthy of your trust. Let me share with you what I have learned about trust.
Let me start out with a definition of trust. Trust is firm belief in the reliability, truth, ability, or strength of someone or something. I notice some key things about trust in this definition. It is a belief in someone who reliable, true, strong, and able.
I have found that I must believe in someone in order to trust in them. I must have faith that they are able to do what they say they can do. I must be confident in not only who they are but also in their ability to accomplish what they say they can do. I have found in my life that there is only one person whom I can truly trust and it is not even myself but it is God. I have come to this conclusion not because everyone else have failed me in some way but rather because no one else can make my path straight nor give me eternal life.
Proverbs 3:5-6 says,
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
and do not lean on your own understanding.
In all your ways acknowledge him,
and he will make straight your paths.”
I have found out through my own experiences that when I trust God that things are better even when things are difficult. As I lived through my wife’s major depression and suicide attempts, I could only have a little peace and hope when I was trust in God to take care of her and me. When I was nit trusting in Him I was filled with anxiety and fear. Even after Laura’s death by suicide I still could have peace and hope when I was trusting in God. I have hope and peace because I trust in God’s promise of eternal life for those who believe, and Laura believed. You too can rely on the promise of eternal life if only you believe in the death and resurrection of Jesus on the cross.
Jesus himself said in John 14:6-7 “Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you had known me, you would have known my Father also. From now on you do know him and have seen him.’” This is one of the promises that I can now rely upon because I know that Jesus is able to accomplish it. It is this that brings me hope.
I pray you will join me in trusting the God who never changes, who will never be unfaithful to us, who always keeps His promises, whose steadfast love endures forever, and who loves us so much He sent His Son Jesus Christ to restore relationship with Him. Finally know that God has something new every morning for us. It is these things that give you hope. Remember from past blogs that it is by knowing God that we have hope. The relationship with God through Jesus brings us hope in the present and the future. I would also encourage you to seek Jesus for He is the only opportunity there is to have eternal life. This is to me the greatest source of hope. In doing so, I believe we will have hope and joy during our everyday lives. Understanding that Jesus Christ allows us to access eternal life, “And this is eternal life, that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent.” John 17:3 (ESV) This will allow us to have hope. At the same time understanding you will live eternally knowing the only true God and Jesus Christ and this will bring you the greatest hope. Because of the death of Jesus Christ on the cross satisfied the penalty for sins. His payment satisfies all my sins from the past, the present and in the future. My penalty and yours was satisfied on the cross by the death of Jesus, God’s greatest act of love and wrath, who became sin for me and you. It was also God’s greatest act of faithfulness because “God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8 (ESV) Because holiness shows us, we need to believe in Jesus. I hope that you join me in helping others to choose Jesus.
