Do you ever feel like you are in the dark? I do. Do you know how to get out of the dark? I step into the light. Have you ever noticed that when you open a door of a room that is dark into the room that is light, the room that is light does not go dark but the room that is dark becomes light? I figured out that it is because darkness does not overcome light but that light overcomes darkness. How does light and darkness relate to your life? Let me share with you about light and how it brings hope.
When I was growing up, I always seemed to associate bad things with darkness. So, when I was growing up and things were gloomy. My mom would tell me that there is always a light at the end of a tunnel. This somehow caused me to have hope. What is it about light that generates that kind of optimism? I believe that it is because God is the true source of light. 1 John 1:5 says, “This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.” (ESV)
When I became a believer in Jesus my life changed for the better. That did not mean that everything was perfect. As my life demonstrates I am not perfect I have my faults and certainly have problems. As you know if you read this blog I lost my wife Laura to suicide, that is not a good thing to happen for me. It caused me pain and suffering, but God has used it to help me to spread light to others. Jesus said, “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.” Matthew 5:14-16 (ESV) I have decided that I must be one of the lights in this world by sharing the truth about Jesus and His love that sustains me through all things be it good (light) or bad (darkness). By reflecting God’s light in my life, I pray that it brings people hope.
I have also depended upon the promise Jesus gave me in John 8:12, “Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” (ESV) What hope that brings me as I wake every morning knowing that I do not have to walk in darkness (sin) but rather I can walk in the light (righteousness).
I pray you will bath in the light of God our source for true hope. It is by knowing God that you see His light and intimately we have hope. The relationship with God through Jesus brings us hope in the present and for the future. I would also encourage you to seek Jesus for He is the only option there is to get eternal life. This is to me the greatest source of hope. In doing so, I believe we will have hope and joy during our everyday lives. Understanding that Jesus Christ allows us to access eternal life, “And this is eternal life, that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent.” John 17:3 (ESV) This will allow us to have hope. At the same time understanding you will live eternally knowing the only true God and Jesus Christ and this will bring you the greatest hope. Because of the death of Jesus Christ on the cross satisfied the penalty for sins. His payment satisfies all my sins from the past, the present and in the future. My penalty and yours was satisfied on the cross by the death of Jesus, God’s greatest act of love and wrath, who became sin for me and you. It was also God’s greatest act of faithfulness because “God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8 (ESV) Because holiness shows us, we need to believe in Jesus. I hope that you join me in helping others to choose Jesus.
