Do you have things in the past that are still bothering you? Are they things that you cannot forget? How do you forget those things? Is forgetting really what you need to do or is it that you need to put them in your past and not allow them to affect you now? How do you change the outcome from bad things that happened to you? How do you find hope from difficult things from your past? I believe the Holy Bible has answers. Shall we look for them together?
I found that inputting your past behind me there are two different types of things that I must consider, the things I have done and the things others have done to me. The things that others have done to me include the random events that have traumatized me that did not come by the hand of someone else.
The things that I have done in my past are the easiest ones to deal with because they were caused by my own bad behavior, sin. I have found that these events I must confess to God and He will forgive them because I have placed my faith in Jesus. The Apostle John tells me about that in 1 John 1:9, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” (ESV) Therefore I must understand that once God has forgiven me, I no longer need those sins to haunt me now or in the future.
The second type I have learned are much more difficult to deal with. I believe that is because usually the hardest ones to deal with are those that cause the greatest pain are the ones that are inflicted upon us by those who should never do anything to us to harm us. I have learned that those who are suppose to love us and whom we love sometimes cause us great harm. They cheat on us in our marriages, lie to us, abuse us in all kinds of ways and they do other things to us that should never be done by someone who loves us. I have found in the Holy Bible that there are somethings we need to do in this situation. These are not easy because I struggle or do not want to do them. I must forgive them. Matthew 6:15 says, “but if you do not forgive others their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.” (ESV)
In both cases I have also found that I need to be changed on the inside, in my heart. The Apostle Paul tells me how to do this in Romans 12:1-2, “I appeal to you therefore, brothers by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.” (ESV) I found as I spend more time in the Holy Bible, talking with godly Christian friends, going to church, praying and worshiping God that my mind is being renewed and my heart is changing and I am becoming a new man. In this I find great hope for the future and my past has decreasing affect upon me.
The process of putting my past behind me is not an easy task. I believe in doing it I bring myself hope for the future. When I do not, I wallow in the past and I cannot move forward. The first step to forgetting the past is the most essential one it is to accept Jesus as your personal Lord and Savior. If you do not know Jesus the true source of hope does not abide in you. Learn how to get the hope you need. Learn how to know Jesus
So, join me in putting your past behind and start your new life over today living in the hope given to you by Jesus. Understanding that Jesus is the only source of true hope. The death of Jesus Christ on the cross satisfied the penalty for my sins and yours as well. It satisfied all my sins from the past, in the present and in the future. My penalty and yours was satisfied on the cross by the death of Jesus, God’s greatest act of love and wrath, who became sin for me and you. It was also God’s greatest act of faithfulness because “God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8 (ESV) Because wisdom shows us, we need to believe in Jesus. I hope that you join me in helping others to choose Jesus.
