A Firm Foundation Brings Hope!

I know many of you have seen the stories about houses sliding down a steep hill in California. Many have also heard about building collapsing because the ground underneath it was not stable enough to hold it up. My guess is that most of you may have seen a bridge being built over water. You have seen the builders drive long large rods into river to reach solid ground in order to put the bridge piers and abutments up. When building a house, a building, or a bridge the foundation is crucial to its survival. The foundation may be the most important part of the construction.

Just like foundation for building a house, building or a bridge the foundation I build my life upon is just as important and necessary. It is the foundation which I build upon that gives me everything I can truly rely upon. It is what gives me hope.

As I go through difficult times and I have built a strong foundation I will survive those difficulties but if I do not have a firm foundation I will fall. Jesus gives me the example of having a firm foundation in Luke 6:46-49, “‘Why do you call me “Lord, Lord,” and not do what I tell you? Everyone who comes to me and hears my words and does them, I will show you what he is like: he is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. And when a flood arose, the stream broke against that house and could not shake it, because it had been well built. But the one who hears and does not do them is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. When the stream broke against it, immediately it fell, and the ruin of that house was great.’” (ESV)

I have found that the first step to building my firm foundation is through having a relationship with Jesus. As I live my daily life, I must depend on the foundation that I have laid with the help Of the Holy Spirit. There are a couple of hymns I grew up with, On Christ the Solid Rock I Stand and How Firm a Foundation that continue to encourage me to build a foundation on Christ my solid rock. Learn how to know Jesus. In the process I must understand what Hebrews 3:4 says, “(For every house is built by someone, but the builder of all things is God.)” (ESV) It is God that makes me who I am. It is not me. In my life there is no where else that I can get the hope I need.

Join me in daily building a foundation on the solid rock of Jesus Christ. Understanding that Jesus is the only source of true hope. The death of Jesus Christ on the cross satisfied the penalty for my sins and yours as well. It satisfied all my sins from the past, in the present and in the future. My penalty and yours was satisfied on the cross by the death of Jesus, God’s greatest act of love and wrath, who became sin for me and you. It was also God’s greatest act of faithfulness because “God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8 (ESV) Because wisdom shows us, we need to believe in Jesus. I hope that you join me in helping others to choose Jesus.
