Faithfulness Brings Hope!

Have you ever felt insecure? I have. Have you ever been betrayed by someone you love? I have. Has someone been unfaithful to you or have you ever been unfaithful to someone? Yes, and yes. Why is it that faithfulness is so important to us? Let us take a look at true faithfulness.

I have yet to meet anyone including myself who is entirely faithful. There are times when people made commitments to me and walked away from those commitments, but then I have done the same thing. Why is it that I struggle so much with being faithful? I believe that is because of my selfishness. I have planned a meeting and I think something better has come up so I break my commitment. I am unfaithful to my word. I know that when someone does the same thing to me, I lose hope. I lose hope in the words of my friend. That hope is only restored when there is forgiveness.

I cannot imagine what God thinks of me when I walk away from Him for “something better” as if there is actually something better. The good news is that the Holy Bible tells us,

“What if some were unfaithful? Will their unfaithfulness nullify God’s faithfulness?  Not at all! Let God be true, and every human being a liar. As it is written: ‘So that you may be proved right when you speak and prevail when you judge.’” Romans 3:3-4 (ESV)

As I see it if I am unfaithful God is not. That is not to say that it does matter because I believe it still does. I have found when I am faithful to God, I have hope. When I am unfaithful to God, I lose hope because I have lost the proper perspective of things

So, what does it mean to be faithful? The dictionary says it is remaining loyal and steadfast, or true to the facts or the original. That is actually a pretty good way to describe faithfulness. Isaiah 25::1 describes God’s faithfulness like this, “O Lord, you are my God; I will exalt you; I will praise your name, for you have done wonderful things, plans formed of old, faithful and sure.” (ESV)

Lamentation 3:22-23 describes it like this, “The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.” (ESV)

The Holy Bible also says, “No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it. 1 Corinthians 10:13 (ESV) I see in these passages that God’s faithfulness includes His steadfast love for us, wonderful things, a long-term plan, and a daily plan that is new every morning. I have found that these truths bring me hope. They bring me hope because of God’s long-term plan of salvation for those who believe and a daily plan for me each day. The sins of my past day are gone and I am new every morning. I also see that God faithfully protects me from Satan and myself by not allowing me to face a temptation that I cannot find a way out of its snare.

So, join me in being faithful to others and more importantly to God. Knowing when we fail being faithful, God will still be faithful and receive hope from the hands of the only One who can give you true faithfulness and hope. He can make all things right. Have hope for yourself and give hope to others by living in God’s faithfulness. The death of Jesus Christ on the cross satisfied the penalty for my sins and yours as well. It satisfied all my sins from the past, in the present and in the future. My penalty and yours was satisfied on the cross by the death of Jesus, God’s greatest act of love and wrath, who became sin for me and you. It was also God’s greatest act of faithfulness because “but God shows his love for us in that while we were still
sinners, Christ died for us.”
Romans 5:8 (ESV) Because of that we ought to believe in Jesus. I hope that you join me in choosing Jesus.
