New Beginnings Brings Hope!
January 6, 2020
Have you ever just wanted to start over? Was it a project that was not going well? Was it a relationship that had somehow gone awry? Was it a career that was not growing the way you had hoped? Was it a choice you made to pursue a type of educational path? Did you choose to live someplace and it is just not working out? Was it a bad habit that you wished you could get rid of but you just cannot so you want to go back to when you had not started it? Is it a relationship that has become abusive? Is there a way that you can bet a fresh start or a new beginning? I think there is. I think we should look to the Word of God to find out how to have a new beginning.
One of the things that The Holy Bible tells me is to forget the things in the past and move forward into a new beginning. “Remember not the former things, nor consider the things of old. Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.” Isaiah 43:18-19 (ESV)
It tells us to become new. We are to become a new person. The first step is to get to know Jesus. If you do not know Jesus the true source of hope does not abide in you. Learn how to get the hope you need. Learn how to know Jesus. The next step is to accept the fact you are now a new creation you have a new beginning. 2 Corinthians 5:17says, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.” Ephesians 4:20-24 says this, “But that is not the way you learned Christ! — assuming that you have heard about him and were taught in him, as the truth is in Jesus, to put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.” (ESV)
Getting a new start is possible. It is not easy but we can do it. We first must forget the past and look to the new. All the passages tell us this. We can forget the past and look to the new by accepting Jesus Christ as our Savior and Lord. We must then believe that our old ways and circumstances have been killed on the cross with Jesus. Those would be the manner of life that is corrupted by deceitful desires. Then we must put on the new self by having our minds renewed by the Holy Spirit. That new self is made in the likeness of God and is in true righteousness and holiness.
So, get rid of your old self and all the baggage that it has. Put on your new self and seek God’s righteousness and holiness by allowing the Holy Spirit to work in you and transform you into a new person with a new beginning that is full of hope for better and more fulfilling future.
