Fulfilled Prophecy Brings Hope!

December 2, 2020

Have you ever wanted to know what the future holds? Do you wish that you could know what was around the corner for you? How about knowing what the future holds for your family would you like to know? I know I would like to know the answers to those questions. There are answers to some of the broad questions relating to the future. There also some answers to the immediate questions but maybe not a specific as we would like. Let us see what The Holy Bible tells us about the future but in order to trust what it says about the future let us learn something about the past.

I would like to look at some of the prophecies about Jesus Christ and see how they are fulfilled. The prospect that anyone would satisfy eight of the prophecies was just 1 in 1017. There are up to 100 different prophecies pertaining to Christ

  1. Jesus would be from the house of King David; Prophecy: “When your days are fulfilled and you lie down with your fathers, I will raise up your offspring after you, who shall come from your body, and I will establish his kingdom. He shall build a house for my name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever.” 2 Samuel 7:12-13 (ESV) Fulfillment: “The book of the genealogy of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham.” Matthew 1:1 (ESV)
  2. The mother of Jesus would be a virgin; Prophecy: “Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.” Isaiah 7:14 (ESV)Fulfillment: And Mary said to the angel, “How will this be, since I am a virgin?”

And the angel answered her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore the child to be born will be called holy—the Son of God.” Luke 1:34-35 (ESV)

  1. Jesus would teach in parables. Prophecy: “Give ear, O my people, to my teaching;
    incline your ears to the words of my mouth!
    I will open my mouth in a parable;
    I will utter dark sayings from of old,” Psalms 78:1-2 (ESV)

Fulfillment: All these things Jesus said to the crowds in parables; indeed, he said nothing to them without a parable. 35 This was to fulfill what was spoken by the prophet:

“I will open my mouth in parables;
I will utter what has been hidden since the foundation of the world.” Matthew 13:34-35 (ESV)

  1. Jesus would be a stone that cause people to stumble. Prophecy: “And he will become a sanctuary and a stone of offense and a rock of stumbling to both houses of Israel, a trap and a snare to the inhabitants of Jerusalem.” Isaiah 8:14 (ESV) Fulfillment: “So the honor is for you who believe, but for those who do not believe,

“The stone that the builders rejected
has become the cornerstone,”

And

“A stone of stumbling,
and a rock of offense.”

They stumble because they disobey the word, as they were destined to do. 1 Peter 2:7-8 (ESV)

  1. Jesus would be despised and rejected. Prophecy: “He was despised and rejectedby men,
    a man of sorrows[c] and acquainted with grief;
    and as one from whom men hide their faces
    he was despised, and we esteemed him not.” Isaiah 53:3 (ESV)

Fulfilled: “When they heard these things, all in the synagogue were filled with wrath. And they rose up and drove him out of the town and brought him to the brow of the hill on which their town was built, so that they could throw him down the cliff.’ Luke 4:28-29 (ESV)

  1. Jesus’ legs were not broken like the Passover Lamb. Prophecy: “It shall be eaten in one house; you shall not take any of the flesh outside the house, and you shall not break any of its bones.” Exodus 12:46 (ESV) Fulfilled: “But when they came to Jesus and saw that he was already dead, they did not break his legs.” John 19:33 (ESV)
  2. Jesus would spill blood as an atonement for our sin. Prophecy; For the life of the flesh is in the blood, and I have given it for you on the altar to make atonement for your souls, for it is the blood that makes atonement by the life.” Leviticus 17:11Fulfilled “for this is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.” Matthew 26:28 (ESV)
  3. Jesus would be forsaken. Prophecy: “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?
    Why are you so far from saving me, from the words of my groaning?” Psalms 22:1(ESV) Fulfilled: “And about the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, “Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?” that is, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” Matthew 27:46 (ESV)

These prophesies help me to believe in the future prophecies that bring hope for the future. I have two that are most encouraging to me in Luke 21:27-28, 33 “And then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory.  Now when these things begin to take place, straighten up and raise your heads, because your redemption is drawing near.”

“Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away.

These help me because I know that Jesus is coming back to fully redeem me. Also, that I can trust God’s Word completely because it will never pass away or become irrelevant.
