Hope Comes When God is Our Deliverer

October 7, 2020

Have you ever been distressed? Did you hope to be rescued from your distress? Were you rescued? How did it happen? Did a friend or a loved one help you, or did you just muddle through until the distress concluded? When you were distressed did you lose hope? Did you try to find deliverance from your distress from God? Why or why not? How about when you were afraid? Did you seek deliverance from your fear? Stressful circumstances and fears are just a couple of things we want deliverance from in our lives. Let’s find out how we can be delivered by looking at what the Bible tells us.

The Psalmist says we should seek God in our times of distress Psalms 107:6 says, “Some wandered in desert wastes, finding no way to a city to dwell in; hungry and thirsty, their soul fainted within them. Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble, and he delivered them from their distress.” (ESV)

We see here by crying out to the Lord they were delivered from their distress. After wandering in the wilderness being hungry and thirsty God delivered them. Are you wandering in your own wilderness in need of deliverance? Seek God for your deliverance!

When King David was in the midst of his trials and he was afraid because he was being chased by his enemies and feared for his own life, he sought the Lord for deliverance from his fear. According to Psalms 34:4, God answered him and granted his request. David praised God saying, “I sought the Lord, and he answered me and delivered me from all my fears.” (ESV)

I think it is important to remember that when we need to be delivered, God is the first one we should ask to help us. And we must ask God as King David demonstrated to us in Psalms 40:13, “Be pleased, O Lord, to deliver me! O Lord, make haste to help me!” (ESV) It is clear from King David’s example that in times of distress or fear, seeking God for deliverance brings us the help we need. Seeking God in your time of need is as simple as asking Him for help.

However, the greatest thing we all need to be delivered from is our sins. If you do not know Jesus, He is the only one that will truly deliver us. He delivers us from fear, distress and our sins, He sets us free from the grip of sin upon our lives. By His death and resurrection, we are delivered if we ask Him to deliver us. Galatians 5:1 says, “For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery.” (ESV) Do you want this kind of freedom? If so, it is not too late to cry out to Jesus to become free (delivered) from your sins. Find out here!
