Jesus’ Humility Leads to Hope

July 1, 2020

So, what is the greatest act of humility that has ever occurred? Have you ever thought about it? Does it even matter? What affect does it have on you? Does it give you hope? Let us look at answers to these questions.

The Bible describes what I believe is the greatest at of humility. It says, “Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.” Philippians 2:5-8 (ESV).

As I think about the humbling of Christ it has to be the greatest act of humility to have ever occurred. The Son of God stepped out of heaven and took upon Himself the form of a man. Even though Jesus was equal to God, He chose not to count Himself equal to God. Think about being God and deciding to give up your status of God. Can you imagine what that must have been like? The only thing that I can compare it to would be for me to give up my human nature and become an ameba.

So, what is the big deal about the humbling of Jesus? It frankly makes all the difference. It is through Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection we see several things. We see a better way to live as Jesus lived a life of example and talked about how we should live. In His death we see the greatest sacrifice in all of history. Jesus did this not because we deserved it, but He did it so we would be forgiven from our sins so we might have the ability to have a relationship with Him and the Father for eternity, which is eternal life. Paul says, “or while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly.  For one will scarcely die for a righteous person—though perhaps for a good person one would dare even to die— but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:6-8, (ESV) In his resurrection we see His victory over sin and death. We will see sometime in the future Jesus’ complete victory over Satan.

I do not know how this affects you but I know how it affects me. The humbling of Jesus has the greatest impact in my life. It gives me peace because I have a relationship with God, I talk with Him and walk with him and I know what my future will be like. It gives me wisdom knowledge and joy because I know I am in God’s hand. Ecclesiastes 2:24-26 says “There is nothing better for a person than that he should eat and drink and find enjoyment in his toil. This also, I saw, is from the hand of God, for apart from him who can eat or who can have enjoyment? For to the one who pleases him God has given wisdom and knowledge and joy, but to the sinner he has given the business of gathering and collecting, only to give to one who pleases God. This also is vanity and a striving after wind.” (ESV) So given all of this I have hope. Not hope in myself but hope through the loving arms of God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit.

If you do not have this kind of hope you need to know Jesus. Please do not wait any longer start your relationship with Jesus today “And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:7 (ESV)
