Do you need to trust someone? Do you know people you can completely trust? I do. What allows you to have complete trust in someone? Do you trust someone immediately or does it take time? What makes someone trustworthy? Have you ever trusted someone, and they have failed you? I have. How did you feel when someone broke your trust? Can trusting someone bring you hope? It does me. Let me share with you about trust and how it brings me hope.
I have found there are certain times when I need to trust someone. Those are times when I am afraid, when I am discouraged, and when I feel alone. King David expressed the same thing about fear in Psalms 56:3-4, “When I am afraid, I put my trust in you. In God, whose word I praise, in God I trust; I shall not be afraid. What can flesh do to me?” (ESV) The prophet Isaiah speaks to me when I am discouraged, “But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.” Isaiah 40:31(ESV). Isaiah also spoke about my aloneness in Isaiah 41:10, “Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” (ESV) In all these things I have hope when I trust in God.
You may wonder what’s it like to trust in God. I have found it is a matter of faith in action. It is my choice to seek out God and trust him. Here are a couple of verses that show me that I must act. “Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him, and he will act.” Psalms 37:5 (ESV) and “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.” Proverbs 3:5-6 (ESV) Proverbs 3:5-6 is one of the key verses in my life I recall it almost every day. I do this to help me to trust in God each day. I believe it is good for me to remember that I need to trust God today.
I have also found that along with trust there is a promise for me to claim, which is that I will be blessed when I trust in God. “Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, whose trust is the Lord. He is like a tree planted by water, that sends out its roots by the stream, and does not fear when heat comes, for its leaves remain green, and is not anxious in the year of drought, for it does not cease to bear fruit.” Jeremiah 17:7-8 (ESV) I need to remember that being blessed does not necessarily mean that my life would be perfect as I wrote about two weeks ago.
I pray you will join me in trusting how God will always be there for us It is by trusting Him that we have hope and blessings. Remember from past blogs that it is by knowing God that we have hope. The relationship with God through Jesus brings us hope in the present and the future. I would also encourage you to seek Jesus for He is the only opportunity there is to have eternal life. This is to me the greatest source of hope. In doing so, I believe we will have hope and joy during our everyday lives. Understanding that Jesus Christ allows us to access eternal life, “And this is eternal life, that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent.” John 17:3 (ESV) This will allow us to have hope. At the same time understanding you will live eternally knowing the only true God and Jesus Christ and this will bring you the greatest hope. Because of the death of Jesus Christ on the cross satisfied the penalty for sins. His payment satisfies all my sins from the past, the present and in the future. My penalty and yours was satisfied on the cross by the death of Jesus, God’s greatest act of love and wrath, who became sin for me and you. It was also God’s greatest act of faithfulness because “God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8 (ESV) Because holiness shows us, we need to believe in Jesus. I hope that you join me in helping others to choose Jesus.
