God’s Holiness Brings Hope!

Have you ever contemplated the importance of God being holy? I have. Do you know what the ramifications of God being holy are? I do to some extent but certainly not fully. Do you understand how important it is that God be holy? I think I do but like the previous question I do not fully understand it. Do you know how to respond to God’s holiness? I do but must admit that I fail miserably. I would like to share what I learned about God’s holiness.

God is holy. What does it mean? The holiness of God refers to the unparalleled majesty of His incomparable being and His blameless, faultless, unblemished moral purity. ‘There is none holy like the Lord; there is none besides you; there is no rock like our God.” 1 Samuel 2:2 (ESV). As I see it my God is so big that I cannot even come close to imagining Him. I cannot fathom the nature and character of God. I cannot understand His perfection. I do not understand His true nature I must therefore believe.

Now for me to imagine that this Holy God would have a perfect plan to save me from my sinful self is beyond my understanding. How can a holy God choose to become a man? “Therefore He [Jesus] had to be made like His brothers in every respect, so that He [Jesus]might become a merciful and faithful high priest in the service of God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people.”Hebrews 2:17 (ESV) Even the demons understood Jesus’ holiness. “What have you to do with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are—the Holy One of God.” Mark 1:24 As part of God’s perfect plan God chose to become a man to suffer on a cross so that I and you could be saved from the punishment that I and you deserve. Jesus paid the price. He became the propitiation me and you. All I and you need to do is accept this free gift. In doing so I and you will have the holiness of Jesus Christ imputed on I and you and will be seen as holy in the sight of God the Father.

I have found that besides trusting in Jesus I also need to respond with worship and holiness. “Worship the Lord in the splendor of holiness; tremble before him, all the earth!” Psalms 96:9“Speak to all the congregation of the people of Israel and say to them, You shall be holy, for I the Lord your God am holy.” Leviticus 19:2 (ESV) I also know and understand that it is not by theses actions that I receive eternal life but it is only by faith in Jesus Christ that I am saved. I cannot imagine a greater hope than this.

I pray you will join me in understanding and responding to God’s holiness, which brings hope. Understanding that the holiness of Jesus Christ allowed us to access eternal life, “And this is eternal life, that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent.” John 17:3 (ESV) However, if you do not know Jesus you must first accept Jesus as your personal Savior and Lord then you need to ask the Holy Spirit to tame our tongue. This will allow us to bring hope as opposed to destroying hope. At the same time understanding that you will live eternally knowing the only true God and Jesus Christ and this what brings the greatest hope all because of the death of Jesus Christ on the cross satisfying the penalty for sins. His payment satisfies all my sins from the past, in the present and in the future. My penalty and yours was satisfied on the cross by the death of Jesus, God’s greatest act of love and wrath, who became sin for me and you. It was also God’s greatest act of faithfulness because “God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8 (ESV) Because holiness shows us, we need to believe in Jesus. I hope that you join me in helping others to choose Jesus.
