Confidence Brings Hope!

Do you ever lack confidence? I do. Do you know where your confidence comes from? Do you search for books about gaining self-confidence? Do you get it from yourself? I do not. So where do I get my confidence? Can I be both humble and confident at the same time? Does confidence bring you hope? It does for me. Let us look to see what I have learned about confidence.

There are hundreds maybe even thousands of books that have been written about self-confidence. Are any of them any good? To the world they may seem to be good but my guess is that most of them are not. I say this because if I am confident in myself, I will always fail myself. I say this because I am not perfect. I make mistakes. In fact, I make lots of mistakes. In fact, my guess is that I make several mistakes every day. When I make a mistake, I lose confidence in myself because I did not do my best. I failed. Proverbs 28:26 says, Whoever trusts in his own mind is a fool, but he who walks in wisdom will be delivered. (ESV)

If I lose confidence in myself, where can I get confidence that does not fail? I have found that the answer to that is actually pretty simple. I get my confidence from God. Proverbs 3:26 says, “For the Lord will be your confidence and will keep your foot from being caught.” (ESV) I can go about my day knowing that God gives me my confidence. He is my safety net when I stumble. He is my helper in time of need. He is my security so I will not fear. “So we can confidently say, “The Lord is my helper; I will not fear; what can man do to me?” Hebrews 13:6 (ESV)

So, I can live with hope in humility because God is my source of confidence. It does not come from myself therefore I am not proudful. I am humbled by the knowledge that God is my source of confidence. Pastor Troy Dobbs from Grace Church Eden Prairie just gave an inspiring message from 2 Corinthians 3:1-6.

Join me in gaining all that confidence you will ever need because God has given it to us. Become confident not in yourself but in God. Knowing that the confidence God gives us will never fail or disappoint. In that confidence you will have hope for your future. Confidence and hope are part of the gifts that God gives you when accept Jesus. Understanding that the hope you have is because of the death of Jesus Christ on the cross satisfying the penalty for my sins and yours as well. It satisfies all my sins from the past, in the present and in the future. My penalty and yours was satisfied on the cross by the death of Jesus, God’s greatest act of love and wrath, who became sin for me and you. It was also God’s greatest act of faithfulness because “God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8 (ESV) Because wisdom shows us, we need to believe in Jesus. I hope that you join me in helping others to choose Jesus.
