Boundaries Bring Hope

November 4, 2020

Have you ever felt violated? Have you ever been abused by someone? Have you every had something stolen from you? Have you ever felt threatened by someone? I have. How did you deal with it? Did you try to det up boundaries around yourself as a means of protection? Did you know that God has set boundaries for His creation and for us? Let us look at how God’s boundaries bring us hope.

It is clear that God set limits to things or boundaries when He created the world and all that was in it.

The Psalmist describes the boundaries God has set for us. Psalms 16:5-8 says, “The Lord is my chosen portion and my cup; you hold my lot. The lines have fallen for me in pleasant places; indeed, I have a beautiful inheritance. I bless the Lord who gives me counsel; in the night also my heart instructs me. I have set the Lord always before me; because he is at my right hand, I shall not be shaken.” (ESV) King David describes the advantages of choosing God. This gives me hope.

Often times we do not think of the Ten Commandments as boundaries but they are. They are limits to the behavior of mankind. These boundaries should protect us from the bad behavior of others but I know that it does not always do that. I know thogh that God will deal with those who do not abide by His boundaries. God promises in Deuteronomy 28 a blessing for being obedient to them is described but also a consequence is described as well, it starts out like this, , “And if you faithfully obey the voice of the Lord your God, being careful to do all his commandments that I command you today, the Lord your God will set you high above all the nations of the earth. And all these blessings shall come upon you and overtake you, if you obey the voice of the Lord your God. Blessed shall you be in the city, and blessed shall you be in the field. Blessed shall be the fruit of your womb and the fruit of your ground and the fruit of your cattle, the increase of your herds and the young of your flock. …” (ESV) I would encourage you to read the rest of the chapter.

When I think about the boundaries that God has set for me and the promises of blessings when I stay inside those boundaries I have hope
