Have you ever looked up in the sky at night when you were not in a city? I have. Have you ever looked at a cell in a microscope? Have you ever seen the birth of a child? When you think about the world that God created does it give you hope? If not, let us look at how creation can bring you hope.
King David speaks about the importance of creation in Psalms 19:1. “…The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork.” (ESV) We receive hope because we can see God in His creation. Whenever I see God’s handiwork, I am absolutely amazed. I see His creativity, His power, and His love. All those bring me hope, how about you?
Nehemiah 9:6 says, “”You are the Lord, you alone. You have made heaven, the heaven of heavens, with all their host, the earth and all that is on it, the seas and all that is in them; and you preserve all of them; and the host of heaven worships you.” (ESV) Here we see that God is active in His creation even today. He has not forgotten us but is right here right now and that brings me hope. How about you?
Colossians 1:16 says, “For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities-all things were created through him and for him.” (ESV) In this Scripture I see that part of His creation is the institutions and governments that rule over us. As I trust in God’s sovereignty, I have hope despite the results of an election or who our political leaders are, because God is in charge and there is hope in His promise.
Ephesians 2:10 says, “For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.” (ESV) We are part of God’s creation and He crafted us to good works. We have purpose in our lives when we do good things. As we go about our lives, day by day, we can take pleasure in doing the good things that God has prepared for us to do. This might look like bringing someone else joy. It may mean helping someone in need or sharing the love of Christ in practical ways with someone. Maybe stopping to help someone fix a flat tire or listening to someone who is mourning the loss of a family member or a friend. All these things bring me hope because His hand is in them all. God is where my hope comes from.
