Have you ever felt like your life was unstable? Have you wondered why nothing seems to be going the way you wanted them to go? Are you feeling like you are not walking on solid ground? Have you tried to fix that feeling? How did you do it? Did it work? I have found that I have tried to fix the seemingly unstableness of my life on my own. It seems to work for a while but then I hit another rough patch. I think what am I to do with this instability in my life. Is there an answer?
I found that The Bible has an answer. Why does that not surprise me. It has become very clear to me that God is my Rock. It says just that in 1 Samuel 2:2
“There is none holy like the Lord:
for there is none besides you;
there is no rock like our God.” (ESV)
Isaiah records a message from God about Himself in His message God refers to himself as a Rock and proclaims there is none other. Isaiah 44 6-8 says,
“Thus, says the Lord, the King of Israel
and his Redeemer, the Lord of hosts:
“I am the first and I am the last;
besides me there is no god.
Who is like me? Let him proclaim it.
Let him declare and set it before me,
since I appointed an ancient people.
Let them declare what is to come, and what will happen.
Fear not, nor be afraid;
have I not told you from of old and declared it?
And you are my witnesses!
Is there a God besides me?
There is no Rock; I know not any.” (ESV)
As you will note Isaiah does not just talk about God being our rock but He also points out that He is our Redeemer, He is eternal and He is exclusive. He is the only one! There is no other god besides Him.
David proclaims in Psalms 18:1-2 “I love you, O Lord, my strength.
The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer,
my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge,
my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.”
Understand that David is saying not only that God is our Rock but because He is our Rock, He becomes our fortress and deliverer. He continues to describe God as a place of refuge, a shield, our salvation and our stronghold.
David goes on in Psalms 19 with the proper response to the fact that God is our rock saying, “Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart
be acceptable in your sight,
O Lord, my rock and my redeemer.”, Psalms 19:14 (ESV)
I have found that my life is more stable when I understand that God is my Rock. He is my foundation. This happens when my actions are more like Christ and less like my natural sinful nature. It has become clear to me that Christ is my solid Rock. It is there that I am at my best. As the old hymn “On Christ the Solid Rock I Stand” says “On Christ the solid rock I stand all other ground is sinking sand.”
In order for Christ to be my Rock I first had to believe in Him not in my head but in my heart. I need to accept Him as my Lord and Savior. If you have not yet done that then here is how.
