God’s Justice Leads to Hope

July 29, 2020

We hear a lot of cry’s for justice these days and we should. The particular calls for justice I am hearing right now are the calls for justice in the death of George Floyd. I live about 28 blocks from where George was killed and George Floyd deserves justice. Have you ever felt like you needed justice like George’s friends and family need right now? When you think about justice do you want it to be immediate? Is justice delayed mean the justice is denied, as some say? So, how come, given the fact that God is wrathful, He has not yet destroyed the perpetrator of the killing of George Floyd? One other question, what is true justice?

I really do wish that justice was always correct and always immediate but as we all know it is neither. There are many instances of unsolved crimes including murder. Therefore, there has been no justice. But let me tell you it has either been paid or it will be paid. God who is just has or will bring about true justice, which brings me hope.

How do we know that justice is coming? The Bible proclaims that justice is coming in the future, “This is evidence of the righteous judgment of God, that you may be considered worthy of the kingdom of God, for which you are also suffering—since indeed God considers it just to repay with affliction those who afflict you,  and to grant relief to you who are afflicted as well as to us, when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with his mighty angels in flaming fire, inflicting vengeance on those who do not know God and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus.” 2 Thessalonians 1:5-8 (ESV) Therefore justice delayed is not always justice denied since God’s justice is perfect.

God’s justice is perfect unlike man’s justice. There are times when men and women are unjustly convicted of crimes they have committed. Some of these are reversed and some are never proven to people.  But God will justly reward us for the good and bad that we do in our lives. The Bible says, “Of a truth, God will not do wickedly,
and the Almighty will not pervert justice.”
Job 34:12 (ESV) and Deuteronomy 34:2 says, “The Rock, His work is perfect,
for all His ways are justice.
A God of faithfulness and without iniquity,
    just and upright is He.”
 (ESV)

However, because of God’s infinite mercy He sent His Son Jesus to receive the just rewards for the sins of the world in order to satisfy God’s justice against the sins of mankind. 2 Thessalonians 5:21 says For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.” (ESV)

It is for this reason that we should not take justice into our own hands we should persevere and wait on the Lord as Paul Saves in Romans 12:19, “Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written, ‘Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.’” (ESV)

So, God’s justice has been or will be satisfied. It will be satisfied in the future when all the world will be judged. It was satisfied on the cross by the death of Jesus who became sin for us. So, if you believe in Jesus All of your wrongs have been justified If not you will face a final judgment. It is your choice. I hope that you choose Jesus.
