Have you ever felt trapped? Have you ever needed your circumstance to end? Have you longed for someone to rescue you? I have. Well, if you are in that place right now, I have good news for you. There is someone ready to deliver you—right now.
The Psalmist writes about our Deliverer. It is the Lord God. Psalms 50:14-15 says,
“Offer to God a sacrifice of thanksgiving,
and perform your vows to the Most High,
and call upon me in the day of trouble;
I will deliver you, and you shall glorify me.”
I found there were times when I needed relief from my circumstances. I needed a break. I needed rest. The problem was that there were few times when I actually could get rest. Even when my wife Laura was hospitalized, and in a secure place, there wasn’t a time of complete rest. Instead, it was a time of concern and worry because Laura was having trouble with her mental illness again. But it was also a time where I did not have to worry about her safety. I did not have to worry she would attempt suicide. The problem was, I still wanted to be delivered from my circumstances.
I found that the only way to feel some semblance of peace was to hand over my circumstances to God. I had to ask Him to deliver me from my circumstances, my worry, my fear, my helplessness, and my hopelessness. I found that when I actually did hand over my situation to God, He gave me peace. However, when that peace would leave, I would take back what I had given to God and would hold onto everything myself.
We also see from this Psalm how we should call out to Him for help. I don’t believe this is a onetime call to God that the Psalmist is speaking about, but rather, a continual calling on God for help. It means when I need to be delivered from my circumstances, I need to keep calling on God. So, as I go through my life, I call on Him and He delivers me. If I take my life back from God and depend on myself, then once more I will need to be delivered. This cycle continues. Maybe one day, I will stop trying to control my own life and give God authority, ending the cycle.
God is my deliverer and He will deliver me from all my troubles. He will give me peace in times of trouble, when I let Him. God does not force this on me, but He always provides me with opportunities to seek deliverance. He promises here in Psalms that if I ask, He will deliver me.
Will you join me in asking God to deliver you from circumstances that are taking away your hope. Because when you and I ask God for deliverance, He will give it to us.
Therefore, in God’s deliverance you and I find hope.If you need to find this kind of hope and you do not have a relationship with God, you can. Read about how to know Jesus.
