Have you ever wanted someone to take care of you? Have you ever just wanted to sit down and let someone serve you? How do you think your life would be better if you had someone to serve you all the time, someone there taking care of you? I must confess, I have given this some thought, in particular, when I am sick or when I am in the mist of trouble. Wouldn’t it be nice to have a servant taking care of my needs and making everything right. Even now, I want to be taken care of, how about you? Amazingly enough, God pointed out to me how He is the servant I want so much.
One of the most fastenating things I learned during my troubles was how Jesus came to the world not to be served, but to serve. As it says in Mark 10:45“The Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” (ESV). And this brings up another question I have. Why did the God of the universe choose to become a man in order to serve the creation He created? The only answer I can see is because of His great love for us. Why would the Lord of lords and King of kings, stoop to the level of a servant when He is the one who should be served? The only answer remains…because He loves us. So, here then is the big why question. (Drum roll!) Why does God love us? Because He chooses to love us, period.
Christ became a servant because of His love for us, so what is our response to that? The Bible tells us in Hebrews 13: 5-6 ‘Keep your life free from the love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, ‘I will never leave you nor forsake you’. So, we can confidently say, ‘The Lord is my helper; I will not fear; what can man do to me?’” (ESV) The author of Hebrews tells us two things. Be free from the love of money and be content in what you have. I think the “be content” means to be content not only in our wealth but in our circumstances. Why should we to do this? Because Jesus promises, He will never leave you or forsake you.
This gives us confidence that God is our helper (servant) and because He is our helper, we don’t have to live in fear. The author also wrote “What can man do to us?” So is fear the result of man? Maybe, or do we fear the results of man’s sinful actions in the world.
Lastly, God pointed me to 2 Chronicles 16:9a, “For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to give strong support to those whose heart is blameless toward him.” (ESV). Wow! What an amazing promise we find here in first Chronicles. God is watching over us to support us in our time of need. We are not alone. He is with us, serving us in our times of need. Picture Him standing before you, providing you with exactly what you need today, now reach out and accept His help. Because God promises to serve us in this way, I have hope. What about you?
If you do not know Jesus you need to get to know Jesus. He is your servant and source of all hope.
