God’s Holiness Leads to Hope

April 15, 2020

Have you ever struggled with believing that God is looking out for your best interests? I have. I went to the Scriptures and the Holy Spirit shed light on an answer for me. I learned how God’s holiness is one of the reasons why I could believe that He was looking out for my best.

It started with a very familiar passage to most Christians. Isaiah 6:1-7 says,

“In the year thatKing Uzziah died Isaw the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up; and the train of his robe filled the temple. Above him stood the seraphim. Each hadsix wings: with two he covered his face, and with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew. And one called to another and said:

‘Holy, holy, holy is theLordof hosts; the whole earth is full of his glory!’

Andthe foundations of the thresholds shook at the voice of him who called, andthe house was filled with smoke. And I said: “Woe is me! For I am lost; for I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips; for my eyes have seen theKing, theLordof hosts!”

Then one of the seraphim flew to me, having in his hand a burning coal that he had taken with tongs from the altar. And hetouched my mouth and said: ‘Behold, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away, and your sin atoned  for.’” (ESV)

Isaiah reveals his vision of the holiness of God. You can see God is majestic in this vision. He is special. He is far different from everyone and everything else. We see the word holy is repeated three times consecutively in this passage. In Hebrew language when something was repeated, it was to emphasize importance and exclusivity. The message here is that God is so far above us that we cannot comprehend the difference.

The idea of holiness is that God is separated from us in all His character and nature. He is more of everything. He is more loving. He is more caring. More merciful, forgiving, righteous, capable, etc… He is more of any characteristic that we have in ourselves. On top of that, He has attributes that we do not even have by nature. He is eternal. All of Him is everywhere all the time and at the same time during all time. If that does not blow your mind, I am not sure what will.

This helped me to understand that because God is holy, I could believe He is looking out for my best all the time. He is looking out for your best all the time as well. Coming to that conclusion gives me hope for the future. I hope that it will give you hope as well.

If you do not know Jesus the Savior of the world. It is time that you learn more.  Read this.
